If you had the choice between living in a simple very small house design or an artistic small house design, which would you choose?
We have been living in our RV and traveling for the past two years. We still love being nomads but are craving a semi-permanent location where we can have a garden, some yard work to do, a place to putter and a little bit of privacy.
We have found that living in a tiny space suits us very well. We don't care for the big expense and the time that it takes to clean and maintain a large home. We have been looking for the past few months for a small affordable house for us to rent that we can call home.
We think we may have finally found that place. We are visiting friends in one of the most beautiful places in Canada. Our friends work part-time at a winery in the area. While visiting them at their workplace a few days ago, we discovered that the winery owners have a few small places on their property that were built to rent out but have been sitting unoccupied for awhile. We took a peak inside one of these place and almost instantly fell in love.
It is a lovely little cottage - tiny house style but with an artistic flair. Their is one bedroom, a living area, a kitchen, a bathroom, and two decks. One of the decks overlooks the lake (at a distance) and the mountains beyond. The other deck is the entrance-way into the house.
Unfortunately, we didn't think to take pictures while we visited. The picture above is a building on the same property and the house is built of the same materials.
The piece to resistance is the staircase to the second level and the upstairs room. The staircase is attached to a built in tree set in the middle of the house (treated for longevity). The second floor is one open room with lots of windows. It would be the perfect combination of office, sitting room, and guest room. We can just imagine how wonderful it would be to work in a room with a gorgeous view and lots of light.
After mulling it over for a few days we have decided to find out more about this place. If it is all that we imagine, and the owners are willing, and the price is right, we may have found our next very small affordable house to live in for the next while.
